When it was announced that Galleria-area establishment Prohibition would move downtown with a supper club in tow, we couldn't have anticipated that it would bring some serious chef power with it. Yesterday we learned that former Batanga chef Ben McPherson and his new Bull & the Pearl partner Matt Wommack will be leading the kitchen at upcoming downtown spot Prohibition Supperclub & Bar.
And while McPherson has only hosted a handful of pop-up dinners with the Bull & the Pearl, the chef, who moved to Houston from Atlanta to help Brian Fasthoff and Hank Fasthoff open Batanga downtown, is now concentrating solely on this new undertaking. That bar and restaurant will launch downtown this August and will feature regular performances from the Moonlight Dolls accompanied by seafood and comfort food from the new chefs. As for McPherson, a few months ago he told Eater that he's "happy to call Houston my new home. I grew up in a small Gulf Coast town and love being close to the water again. That murky Gulf water runs through my veins."
