As Summer temperatures continue to soar cravings for light, fresh, and bright flavors beckon patrons to KUU Restaurant in Gateway/Memorial City. Here, Executive Chef Adison Lee has developed a seasonal menu full of cool and succulent dishes paired with crisp wines and icy cocktails. "Our [Summer] menu is inspired by the season and the best available fruits, vegetables and fish that we can source locally," says Lee.
Enjoy a new happy hour and munch on Chicken Karaage (fried chicken with cool pickles) or House-Cured Bacon with Jalapeno (topped with Wagyu – yum!). The Crispy Rice Cake is an addictively crispy, creamy, warm-cool stacked bite of breaded and deep-fried sushi rice that is soaked in a vinegar mixture and topped with crabmeat. You'll want a whole plate of those alone.
Chilled Summer happy hour concoctions from the bar include the Beet You Up made from Patron Silver, Sombral mezcal, beet juice from Atkinson Farm vegetables, lime, agave, shiso, & pink sea salt, the Green With Envy made with green tea, lemongrass, Cinco Five Star Vodka, St. Germain, & sparkling wine, and the Hemingway Daiquiri made with Cruzan aged rum, simple syrup, lime, grapefruit, & Luxardo maraschino.
The dinner menu is also getting a temporary makeover. Take for example the Kanpaccio – a combining of the words Kanpachi and carpaccio. This cold dish is comprised of kanpachi (a yellowtail called Amberjack) and kampachi (a whitefish called Almaco Jack) marinated in yuzu garlic soy alongside Texas orange, pickled grapes, and Thai chili. If a warm meal is on your mind consider the Crispy Duck with compressed apple, a scallop chip, and a wasabi beet reduction. Sweet, salty, juicy, and crispy flavors and textures are a veritable party for the taste buds. Additional new items include Tuna Lobster with Lotus Chips, Citrus Cured Fluke, Uni Crusted King Crab, and a Wagyu & Unagi duo.
Wash these nibbles down with summer drinks like the Kuucumber Mint, a blend of vodka, cucumber, mint, & cranberry juice, the Cloud Nine made with vodka, lychee puree, & nigori sake, or the Chai Tea Margarita composed of tequila, chai tea, agave, & fresh lemon.
These menus will only be available until the first day of Fall, so don't dilly-dally.
