Even critical acclaim and pre-opening buzz couldn't save Italian spot Osteria Mazzantini from closure. CultureMap reports that the Italian place will serve its last dinner this Saturday night. Owner John Sheely, who opened Mazzantini in September, told the Chron that they "couldn't maintain the volume to pay the Galleria-area rents."
Sheely, who also owns Mockingbird Bistro, says that Green Cafe Management made him an offer he couldn't refuse. That management group owns Ruggles Green and will name their new establishment at the BBVA Compass building Ruggles Kitchen. It will be helmed by none other than controversial chef Bruce Molzan, who recently left Corner Table. What's still uncertain is how that will affect plans to launch a new venture at the old Nosh Bistro space, where it was said that he'd partner with Nosh founder Neera Patidar on a new concept.
