The Voice Media Group is continuing to replace some of its full-time restaurant critics with freelancers, and this time it's Houston that's seeing a shuffle. Eater National contacted current critic Kaitlin Steinberg, who said she is "still there, just moving to an editing role and continuing to blog about food." A little over a year ago Steinberg replaced current Houstonia features editor Katharine Shilcutt as the full-time Houston food critic at the Press. It's unclear what her new editorial role at the Press will entail, but it will likely still involve food writing. As for her replacement, it will be a freelance writer who has "strong opinions that they are prepared to broadcast and defend" and who has a "sophisticated knowledge of food and restaurants." (Twitter user @married2food shares this call for Houston Press freelance food critics.)
We contacted Steinberg and Press editor-in-chief Margaret Downing earlier today, and we'll update this space with more info as we receive it.
