Montrose is down one Sunday Funday hotspot. As of Tuesday, Berryhill Baja Grill — the independently owned franchise outpost on the corner of Montrose and Hawthorne — served its last margarita and infamous fish tacos. "The lease on the restaurant space was held by the franchisee, and the circumstances that led to the decision to close the business did not involve the Berryhill Corporation," according to a statement obtained by Houston Chronicle.
After LaStrada closed in 2009, Berryhill on Montrose became the unofficial place to go for Sunday Funday. Although the reason for the closure is unknown, new party destinations along Westheimer for weekend revelers to choose from may have played a part in the decision. Within the last two years, the neighborhood's Sunday Funday crowd migrated towards trendier venues. New Sunday favorites include Rosemont Social Club, recently opened Doc's Motor Works Bar and Grill and Shawn Bermudez's mini Westheimer empire: Boondocks, Royal Oaks Bar & Grill, Pistolero's and Stone's Throw, which opened last summer.
