Earlier this month, reports of Los Dos Amigos' impending closure left many rushing to the Washington Avenue restaurant for their last meals unsure of when the Mexican eatery would close in February. But now there's a confirmed date. The Cantu family posted a letter to the doors of their Mexican restaurant confirming their departure from Washington Avenue after 39 years:
Thank you to all our valued customers, family and friends for 39 fantastic years. We have enjoyed bringing our traditional recipes to Houston.
The landlord has sold this property and our door will remain open until the end of February 2015. Our family is currently looking for a new location and will keep those informed whom are interested.
As noted above, the restaurant will close February 28 but the end may not be over for Los Dos Amigos, which is bittersweet nonetheless. Although the Mexican restaurant may resurrect elsewhere, chances are it won't be in the Washington Corridor where the rent is skyrocketing and older properties like Los Dos Amigos are being sold to make way for newer development. The Cantu family is seeking suggestions for possible locations. If you have any ideas, feel free to contact them.
