Robby and Chieko Cook's Barringer Bar & Lounge — recently listed as one of the year's most anticipated bars in the country — is on track to open this year. The husband and wife duo confirmed plans of making another go of it after a lockout dispute forced them to close unexpectedly last year. But where will the two resurrect Barringer 2.0? Very reliable real estate sources are spilling the beans, revealing the couple are moving further down Main Street, taking up residence at former Club Next located within the Brewster Building at 108 Main. The space is much larger than their upstair digs above Clutch City Squire at 410 Main, with three floors for the bartending duo to recreate their magic. No confirmation has been made but keep an eye out on what's soon to come.
Several blocks away, Jeff Koar of recently opened Wooster's Garden in Midtown is rumored to make his Downtown bar debut. Known for his Washington Avenue, Upper Kirby and Midtown ventures through The Kirby Group (Roak, EI8HT, Taps, Hendricks, OTC Kirby and OTC Midtown), Koar is said to be opening another bar at 502 Main, which last housed Jefe Bar Mexican Grill. Fueling the rumors even more is a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) notice posted outside the building since October with Koar's name listed. With several craft cocktail bars lining Main, maybe Koar's latest rumored party destination will bring balance to the street.
