Mr. Peeples Owners Opening Barbecue Joint in Midtown

A Texas-style smokehouse is moving to BlackFinn American Grille space.

What's going on behind those brown paper covered windows at 1910 Bagby? Something smokey and delicious. CultureMap reports The Republic Smokehouse & Saloon is taking over the space that last housed BlackFinn American Grille. Doctor turned restauranteur Atul "Lucky" Chopra of Landmark Houston Hospitality Group (Hearsay Gastro Lounge, 51fifteen and Mr. Peeples) is bringing barbecue to Midtown.

The concept is "Twin Peaks meets Pappas Barbecue meets Wild West," according to CultureMap, but it sounds an awful lot like Bone Daddy's House of Smoke. Bone Daddy's a breastaurant type place that specializes in barbecue with two locations in the Houston area (Webster and Willowbrook), however the 'cue that will be served at The Republic Smokehouse & Saloon will be better with much assistance from Cedric Williams. Williams owned now shuttered Acres Homes Williams Smokehouse and will take on the duties of head pitmaster, bringing his recipes on board. Hearsay on the Green's sous chef Matt Knotts is being promoted to executive chef at the Midtown barbecue spot, which will also craft beers and cocktails.
