Restauranteur-chef Anita Jaisinghani may be opening a New York City outpost of her widely successful Indian restaurant Pondicheri in the near future. Whispers of possible plans for expansion have simmered for a while, but the James Beard Award nominated chef would have you believe it's just talk.
"While we would love to expand Pondicheri to other cities, whether it be New York or Austin, we have nothing confirmed yet about it," says Jaisinghani regarding inquires of opening in New York City. The pastry chef may not have anything to confirm but a SEC filing a few weeks ago proves otherwise. Last year, Jaisinghani established the limited liability company Pondicheri New York LLC, which is a clear sign showing her intent at a New York expansion.
If Jaisinghani does decide to open up shop in the Big Apple, it could possibly be the start of more locations across the nation. The Pondicheri chef has her share of fans outside of Texas. A 2012 James Beard Award semifinalist, Jaisinghani and Pondicheri have been featured in several national publications and outlets including Food & Wine, Southern Living and the Cooking Channel's Unique Eats.
