Greg Gatlin's beloved Gatlin's BBQ at 1221 W. 19th Street in the Heights closed on February 7 after five years and Houston has been salivating and waiting for the arrival of their new home. The doors have finally opened short ways away at 3510 Ella Blvd. in Oak Forest and we couldn't be happier.
The main upgrade to Gatlin's is the space itself. The famed original location was cozy - 700 square feet cozy, but the lines persisted. The new digs boast over 4,000 square feet, 130 seats, and an updated kitchen, but of course the lines still persist as they should. What hasn't changed is the quality of the menu, with all the usual suspects present: Brisket, ribs (St. Louis, baby back and beef), chopped and sliced brisket sandwiches, and all the sides and desserts that have made Gatlin's famous.
