Alison Cook has chimed in on her recent visit to Pour Society in the West Houston / Memorial area. She focuses on one menu offering from the gastropub, the Pour'k Burger. She gives it an unexpected A-minus rating, citing the patty itself as the main attraction. The use of ground beef cheek from Black Hill farms seems to steal the show for Cook, citing it's unusually flavorful quality, and let's be honest - when is the last time you ate a burger that was ground from beef cheek?
"It's a tribute to the beef quality, as well as to the spirited pimento-cheese-and-bacon combo, that the flavors of this burger balanced out nicely without any of the usual Texas-style mustard/mayo burger condiments. (Or, for that matter, without a drop of "special sauce.") There was no welcome sploosh of beef juices, and the black-peppered patties were a bit too well done for my taste, but nothing got in the way of that lush beef taste."
The pour'k burger with steak fries will set you back $14 and in addition to the beef cheek patty it has house made bacon slices and pimento cheese stacked in, another unique take on an American bar food staple.
