Long gone are the lounge days at 315 Fairview. Once home to Dean's and The Fairview, the art deco building next to Bar Boheme now houses Akamaru Japanese Restaurant. The California-import opened over the weekend bringing more sushi options to Montrose. Going against established Osaka and the ever popular Uchi, Akamaru hopes to set itself apart by offering traditional Japanese fare.
No shaggy dogs or hipster sounding rolls are on the menu, instead classic sushi, nigiri, sashimi and udon noodle dishes. As Akamaru awaits its alcohol permit, customers are allowed to bring in their own bottles without being charged a corkage fee.
Akamaru is open every day except Monday and closed during lunch hours on Saturdays. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday through Friday (and Sunday); 4:40 p.m. to 10 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday (and Sunday); 4:30 p.m to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
