Jackson Street BBQ, the upcoming barbecue spot across from Minute Maid Mark in downtown's Convention District, is close to announcing an opening date. Activity at the 8,000 square-foot former Houston Live Sports Lounge has been busy for several weeks. Tables and other fixtures were moved in last week. Additionally a few days ago, the Houston Live signage was removed and the he once dark gray exterior received a fiery red paint job.
Co-owner and chef Bryan Caswell (Reef, 3rd Coast Bar, Little Bigs and El Real) anticipates to open by the end of February, but early March looks to be more realistic. Joining Caswell in serving up barbecue to downtown denizens are partners Bill Floyd (Reef, 3rd Coast Bar, Little Bigs, El Real) and Greg Gatlin (Gatlin's Barbecue). While brisket, ribs, sausages and burgers will be on the menu, Jackson Street BBQ hopes to standout from Houston's growing roster of 'cue retreats by serving seafood offerings like crabs, crawfish and Vietnamese barbecue shrimp.
