Looks like the rest of Houston is finally taking notice of Javani King's Davis St. at Hermann Park. The modern American restaurant, which resides on the ground floor of Mosaic on Hermann Park in the Museum District, gained recognition when taking home the top prize at Sunday night's Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition.
Competing against established restaurants, Davis St. earned the highest marks of the evening for its crispy Thai shrimp, winning the Trailblazing Award. The 5,000 attendees also fell head over heels for the newcomer and took second place in the Popular Choice category behind Round Top's Royers Café. Davis St. also scored second place in Showmanship.
King, a Culinary Institute LeNotre grad, opened Davis St. in October. The Museum District restaurant has also graced Eater Houston's monthly heatmap twice (in November and December) since opening. After introducing itself to thousands of food enthusiasts, it's likely this once under-the-radar establishment will soon find itself with a problem other restaurants desire: a full house.
Other big winners of the night included: Brennans of Houston, Brio Tuscan Grille, Mini Pies, Mr. French, Mostly Chocolate & Catering and Joyce's Seafood & Steaks.
