Coming to Washington Avenue this spring is Missouri City's Ula's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina. Sure, you may have already been aware of this, but after remaining mum on their move into the big city for months, the latest inhabitant along the corridor finally stepped up and announced their second location.
The restaurant shared the news of their forthcoming opening on its website last evening:
We can no longer duck our fans and the paparazzi. It’s true. All the rumors you’ve heard are true! Just can’t deny it anymore. As reported by Jakeisha Wilmore of eater.com and a few other media, Ula’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is opening a new location at 5555 Washington Avenue in downtown Houston.
Washington Avenue is a awash with Tex-Mex and Mexican eateries, so how will Ula's be able to stand out from the rest? Its fajitas. Yelpers seem to be big fans of the sizzling meat platter, a fact the restaurant proudly boasts in its blog posting. Price point is another factor. As previously noted, Ula's pricing is attractive to those looking to pinch and save every once and a while. Compared to nearby El Tiempo Cantina and Molina's Cantina pricey menu items, diners may find Ula's an attractive alternative despite its parred down menu.
Ula's hasn't disclosed an opening date yet, but it looks as if the restaurant should open in early spring. Between the new crop of Tex-Mex and taco eateries, plus Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants (Beirut Lebanese Fine Cuisine, Mary'z Lebanese Cuisine and Fire Station 11) along the Washington Corridor, a friendly food war is being waged where diners are the ultimate victors.
