After stints at Underbelly, executive chef duties at Goro & Gun, as well as contributing to Eater Houston, Southern Goods has tapped JD Woodard to be Chef de Cuisine of its Southern comfort restaurant. Woodard leaves his position with Plonk! Beer and Wine Bistro, joining recent hire Patrick Feges at the forthcoming Heights restaurant.

Southern Goods announced its latest addition on Facebook, with a statement from partner and former Underbelly sous chef Lyle Bento. "We are excited to have Nooji (Woodward) join our endeavour at Southern Goods. We have worked together for so many years […] I can’t wait for the crew to get together again to do what we love and create new dishes with a southern comfort twist." Woodard not only brings his many years of experience in the industry but his preserving game as well. The accomplished chef operates Guerrilla Canning Company, a pickling business whose wares were once available at Goro & Gun hosted pop-ups.

The latest joint venture from Charles Bishop, co-owner and former partner of Cotton Wood and Liberty Station, is expected to open this spring.
