Uh-oh, a favorite comfort food restaurant of law enforcement, lawyers and judges at nearby court houses could be in jeopardy of closing. The ever-observant real estate blog Swamplot discovered Avenue Grill is on the market. Opened since the 1950's on Houston Avenue, a block over from Washington Avenue, the home-style cafe has been on the market since last summer. Several properties in close proximity are grouped into the sale too for a total asking price of $1.5 million.
Whether the restaurant will remain open once a new owner is in the picture is uncertain. If Avenue Grill does close, it wouldn't be surprising. After all, the new trend in Houston's revitalization is buying up properties with existing businesses, close them and build a astronomically priced luxury high-rise. Or maybe, just maybe the restaurant and bar revitalization will extend around the corner to Houston Avenue.
