On the heels of Los Dos Amigo's closure last month, Ula's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is gearing up to open on Washington Avenue soon, according to an observant tipster to Houston Press. As reported in January, the Tex-Mex restaurant is expanding its reach into Houston. Occupying the space vacated by Clark-Cooper Concepts' Coppa Ristorante Italiano, this marks the second location for the fajita dispensery outside of Missouri City.
The alternative weekly reports, "we drove by the spot and while they're not quite open yet, they indeed look pretty close. The doors have been repainted and decked out with the new logo and the windows are papered over, just waiting for the big reveal." A hiring post listed in February on Craisglist suggests Ula's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina's Washington Avenue debut is near as well.
Ula's Mexican Restaurant & Cantina has been very quiet about their move into Houston, ignoring emails and phone calls regarding their upcoming opening for months. In fact, no mention of the Washington Avenue outpost has been made on its website or on Facebook. It's quite strange but maybe being under-the-radar works best for them. After all, with little marketing involved, the restaurant that quietly opened last fall in Missouri City quickly became a neighborhood favorite among Yelpers.
