Two Houston chefs are in the running for Food & Wine's "People's Best New Chef." Ryan Pera of Coltivare and Adam Dorris of Pax Americana have been nominated for the title in the Southwest division. To qualify, chefs must have been in charge of their own kitchens for five years or less.
Both chefs have garnered praise for their respective restaurants since opening in 2014, landing on Texas Monthly, GQ, Bon Appétit and a slew of well-respected publications' best of lists. Food & Wine praises Dorris' way of "transforming Texans’ ideas of what dinner can be" and Pera's approach to "modern Italian dishes and wood-fired pizzas" which "take the terms "fresh" and "local" to a new level."
As the name of the award implies, the People's award goes to the chef with the most votes. So grab your laptop or tablet and start voting. The voting period will continue through Wednesday, April 8, ending at 4 p.m.
