Downtown Houston Hotel Brews Up Boozy New Starbucks Concept

Coffee, wine and beer brought to you by Starbucks.

Get ready for beer and wine to be served alongside coffee at Starbucks, plus more big changes soon at Hilton Americas. The downtown hotel in the Convention Center District is converting a 4,000 square-foot portion of hotel ground-floor lobby into a next level Starbucks, according to CultureMap.

Houston First Corporation and Hilton Americas has struck a deal with the Seattle-based chain to sell its coffee inside the hotel. Aside from familiar brews and roasts, the deal also allows Hilton Americas to offer Starbucks Reserve, a small-batch roast exclusive to limited Starbucks locations. Unlike the traditional Starbuck layout, the downtown location once completed will be among the "largest coffee outlets in Texas," according to a statement on Houston Convention District's website. There will be seating inside and an outdoor patio, providing a space for patrons to lounge and relax while sipping a glass of wine. Or even beer.

Yes, this new Starbucks will include last year's much touted Starbucks Evenings, a program rolled out to select markets where Starbucks turns into a wine house in the evenings. After 4 p.m., the coffeehouse will sell beer, small plates and desserts in addition to wine.

Renovations will take place over a span of six to seven months. Completion is projected for late 2015. Also slated to open later this year a few blocks west, South Korean coffee import Caffe Bene at Greenstreet.
