Anvil alum and cocktail mad scientist, Chris Frankel is set to debut Spare Key, his very own cocktail bar, this weekend. Situated above Cook & Collins in high-energy Midtown, Spare Key hosted an intimate crowd during a quiet soft opening last weekend but that's likely to change to once doors officially open Friday, April 10.
Frankel, who previously stints worked at RDG + Bar Annie and most recently Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar and Spirit Lodge, will take a different approach in offering expertly crafted cocktails. As previously reported by CultureMap, the menu at this estimated 30 seat bar will feature "five classics and five house cocktails on its menu." The pared down menu is part of a new trend beginning to surface in Houston. Cocktail bars are doing away with elaborate menus and drinks in favor or elevated classics and simple drinks, like Johnny's Gold Brick in the Heights. Spare Key takes it a steps further by creating customized cocktails with house-made ingredients for patrons.
Spare Key will open Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11 from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
