Today Evan Turner, co-owner and partner in the forthcoming Rice Village Greek spot Helen, confirms William Wright will be his chef. Werner just gave notice at his current gig as chef de cuisine under Manual Pucha at TABLE on Post Oak.
"He's a really, really talented chef," says Turner. "And I think he's going to be a big name in the Houston food scene. He's got great instincts and a wonderful work ethic. Will likes to be collaborative and inventive. I'm looking forward to working with him."
For what it's worth, Wright recently helped Turner cater a private birthday gig where he did up a tasty octopus and whole fish — one or both of which may well wind up on the menu at Helen. Turner says he and Wright continue to kick around ideas for the purported Gulf Coast-meets-Greece menu. The restaurant is still set for an early- to mid- July opening.
