Southside Espresso Goes Permanent on East End

The Navigation Street Esplanade booth will be going brick-and-mortar.

The owner and coffee-slinger of Southside Espresso, Sean Marshall, tells Eater that he's inked a lease for a new location in Houston’s ever-evolving East End neighborhood. The shop's first branch opened in 2012 in a rather unsuspecting adjacent back building to Uchi on Westeheimer and Montrose. The new free-standing permanent location will replace their current pop-up booth on the Navigation Street Esplanade.

Renderings for the new space, which will be made from re-purposed shipping containers, have been put into commission by local designer Veronica Hernandez (Gensler). Marshall negotiated the site and lease terms with the Greater East End Management District so that Southside will be a permanent fixture to the Navigation Street Esplanade, but a timeline to opening is a little less clear.

The hope is to open sometime after summer — and certainly before the end of the year. The other incoming tenant at Navigation Street Esplanade is still TBD.
