MUSEUM DISTRICT — Paolo Fronza and Matteo Alessandri (previously co-owned Fellini Caffe) will take over the Cafe Express space located in the museum's Audrey Jones Beck Building and create an entirely new eatery, called MFACafe. The eatery will focus on Northern Italian-inspired fare featuring fresh, local ingredients and unique imported Italian meat and cheese offerings, according to a MFAH press release. [Culturemap]
HOUSTON — Citing venerable spots such as Killen's, CorkScrew, Jackson Street and the meat-centric pop-ups happening at Glitter Karaoke, Houstonia Magazine makes the case Houston is the premier location for smoked meats. And offering up this fresh rumor for barbecue fans, "Wayne Mueller, the third-generation owner of the legendary Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor, north of Austin, is rumored to be looking for a new location for his own barbecue joint—where else?—right here in town," writes Robb Walsh. HEIGHTS — Southern Goods is hosting a preview dinner Thursday, August 6, for the southern-style concept from Charles Bishop and Lyle Bento. A celebration of the South, owners Bishop (former partner of Liberty Station and Cottonwood) and Bento (former Underbelly sous chef) are opening their joint venture in the former Table 19 and Pie in the Sky on West 19th street, hopefully in the next few weeks. And this Saturday and Sunday you can pop in for some barbecue prior to the official opening. [Facebook]
