Fans of the burrito chain will need to venture outside the loop for Uberrito's massive burritos. The company posted on Facebook, "with mixed emotions we make an announcement that our Uberrito on West Alabama closed at the end of business Friday, August 28, 2015. It is sad as it was 20 years ago that the first Mission Burrito opened in that location and grew from there in to multiple Mission Burrito's. The positive is that we are now in expansion mode."
In December of 2014, the restaurant shifted from Mission Burrito to Uberrito changing only in name and not in recipes, specials, or co-workers. In the same Facebook post, Uberrito intimated landlord troubles as the primary reasoning behind the closure, "Many times after 10 (but especially 20) years, landlords make changes to their portfolios however we knew that was a risk and when we purchased the company; we knew we had something special in that concept and began planning our expansion plans."
Uberrito also noted that fans of the burrito chain need not completely lose hope, expansions are on the horizon and their location at I-10 and Durham will remain open.
