For Houstonians patiently awaiting the arrival of Platypus Brewing, the city’s first Australian-style brewpub, this week brings some pretty excellent news.

A representative for Platypus Brewing tells Eater that it will make its official debut early next week after quietly kicking open the doors for a soft opening this past weekend. Originally, the spot was slated for a September opening, but the spot wasn’t quite ready until this week.

Brewmaster Kerry Embertson, formerly of Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka, CA, will oversee the beer program that will bring together Australian flavors and Texas ingredients. Look forward to suds like the Bobby Dazzler, an Australian ale brewed with Houston ghoney, and the Box Kick, a “light bodied” IPA, among the brewery’s current offerings.

Both an Australian and Houstonian, Jason Gould will lead the kitchen at Platypus Brewing. Formerly chef de cuisine at Gravitas, Gould’s menu will offer shareable plates and entrees designed to complement the beers they’re paired with.

Platypus Brewing is set to make its official debut on Monday, October 10. If you can’t wait to try your first Bobby Dazzler, the brewery will be open from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. today.
