Stoked Tacos & Tequila Barely Made It Six Months

The restaurant’s chef has headed to greener pastures in Austin

So long, Stoked

After making a splashy debut in Houston’s taco scene earlier this year, Stoked Tacos & Tequila has already closed its doors.

CultureMap reports that the restaurant’s neighbor Red Door has also shuttered, which means that the landlord is going to undertake a major renovation. Hopefully, the changes will shake the “curse” that has befallen the building. As CultureMap’s Eric Sandler notes, four concepts have opened (and closed) in the space in the last five years.

Stoked chef Adam Puskorius has also ditched Houston. He’ll move to Austin to serve as executive chef at Fixe, a “progressive Southern” restaurant that has earned a whole lot of praise from local critics. Puskorius will lead an expansion of the concept — the restaurant’s second outpost will open in Fort Worth, and future locations are currently in the works.

As for what will come next for the space at 2416 Brazos, that’s anybody’s guess. But maybe they should consider bringing some holy water to clear this building of its bad juju.
