Despite the fact that Houston is a massive port city, there aren’t exactly a whole lot of opportunities to drink on the high seas. That will all soon change (sort of) as Ship & Shield sets sail next month.
CultureMap reports that the Norwegian-inspired concept currently in the works in the former Byzantio space is a project of Hans Gerner, whom you might recognize from Hans Bier Haus and The Kelvin Arms. Half Norwegian, Gerner found inspiration in The History Channel’s Vikings for his latest concept, which may be the first of its kind.
The menu will feature wild game like caribou, boar, and elk at giant “feast tables” that seat 10 very hungry raiders. The bar is designed to look like a Viking ship, and will serve mead (but of course) alongside beer, wine, and bar snacks from the region.
Gerner tells Eater that he’s shooting for a December 1st grand opening for the concept, Odin willing. Stay tuned for more updates.
