If you’ve ever watched Oprah Winfrey’s My Favorite Things episodes, you know that the queen of daytime television is really good at picking winners. Hopefully that will be true when an Oprah-endorsed eatery from St. Louis makes its Houston debut.
The Houston Business Journal reports that the owners of Sweetie Pie’s, a famed soul food restaurant with its own TV show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, have inked a deal to open a restaurant in Space City. Sweetie Pie’s hasn’t officially confirmed the expansion, but “sources close to the deal” tell the Journal that the restaurant will open an outpost at 6356 Richmond Ave in the former Beaucoup Bar & Grill space.
Sweetie Pie’s is a concept of Robbie Montgomery, a a former backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner and current star of Welcome To Sweetie Pie’s, the OWN show that chronicles the restaurant’s operations. Despite its charming moniker, the restaurant isn’t without controversy — earlier this year, Montgomery sued her son Tim Norman for trademark infringement after Norman tried to open restaurants without his mom’s consent.
At present, there is no timeline for Sweetie Pie’s Houston debut.
