In addition to practically shutting down the majority of the city, the disastrous rains that have hit Houston over the past two days have also caused an incredible amount of damage to homes and businesses. In the aftermath, Killen’s BBQ is planning a fundraiser to help help victims get back on their feet.
On Friday, April 22, Killen’s Barbecue will donate a portion of proceeds from lunch – served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. – to the American Red Cross, who are working within Houston to provide food and shelter to more than 500 local residents after the storms. For those feeling particularly generous, Killen’s will also collect cash donations that will be given directly to the charity to assist with disaster relief efforts.
Alongside his much-beloved smoked meats, owner Ronnie Killen will also be grilling up burgers as a preview of sorts of his forthcoming concept, expected to land in Pearland this May. If helping fellow Houstonians in need weren't enough incentive, trying one of the city’s most highly anticipated new restaurants well before it opens should certainly motivate you to get out of the house and eat for a good cause.
