Brunch is the most important meal of the weekend. When else can you combine French toast and booze in a way that isn't frowned upon? Houston's brunch scene is certainly on its way up as the city embraces the beauty of pairing breakfast foods with booze.

But where do you find Houston's best brunches? Start with these five spots this weekend, which will no doubt leave you jonesing for more Sunday Funday brunches in the very near future.

Tony Mandola's Gulf Coast Kitchen

Italian meets Texan in Executive Chef Juan Arellano’s new brunch menu. Indulge in lobster or carnitas omelets alongside brioche French toast and fluffy Belgian waffles. If eggs benedict is your thing, try the Galveston, which comes loaded with fried oysters, collards, and Tabasco hollandaise. Wash it all down with a build-your-own bloody mary.

Good bread is an essential component to brunch, so it’s no surprise that dough plays a starring role here. Numerous toast offerings come laden with house-smoked salmon and mascarpone, or a decadent Nutella & peanut butter option. Sweet meets savory in a fried chicken dish served with cake donuts, which is a must-try. Seven brunch cocktails are on offer, most notably the Dulce Amor, which blends espresso, vanilla cream, and mezcal.

Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette

There aren’t too many places where you’ll find hearty crab, shrimp and andouille gumbo that can be ordered from a menu that also features ocean-fresh Hawaiian poke. Also on offer are oysters from four briny locales, plus pork belly benedicts and Frosted Flake French toast. Skip the mimosas in favor of a Portofino, which blends Solerno blood orange vodka with fresh-squeezed blood orange juice and bubbles.

North Italia

Pizza for breakfast is a staple, but the pies here are worthy of a reservation. Try the bacon & egg topped pizza, complete with charred crust and gooey cheese. If lunch is more your think, go for North Italia’s bolognese or Tuscan chicken salad sandwich. Toast the weekend with a Ginger Vanilla Greyhound which gets zip from fresh grapefruit.

Ouisie's Table

Kick it old school at this River Oaks favorite where the atmosphere is as charming as the food. A menu of southern and Texas-inspired delights features chicken enchiladas, paella, cornmeal pancakes, and seafood crepes. Bottomless cocktails and house-blend Bloody Mary’s wash it all down with ease. Save room for dessert: a slice of Grand Marnier Chocolate Cake makes every weekend extra sweet.
