Is it a cookie? Or a doughnut?

There is now a dizzying array of mash-ups riffing on the world’s most perfect pastry: the doughnut. First came the cronut (croissant + doughnut), then the duffin (doughnut + muffin), and on and on. Now, The Grove Do-Nutz & Deli has created their own version of the updated doughnut, and it just might be the pastry world’s newest trend.

On Instagram, The Grove teased photos of their brand new cookie doughnut. According to the shop, the cookie doughnut is still made from the same dough, just sliced thinly and cooked on the griddle until crisped around the edges. Scope it out below, and revel in the wonder:

Just when you thought doughnuts couldn’t get any better, the addition of The Grove’s incredible array of toppings sweetens the pot. Top your cookie doughnut with M&Ms, crunchy cereal, or a drizzle of melted chocolate. Also on offer are more gourmet options, like crumbled bacon and a maple glaze, or the Funky Monkey, a thick smear of Nutella topped off with chunks of banana.

The Grove claims to be the first-ever shop offering the cookie doughnut, and a cautionary search around the web seems to confirm that. If the cronut is any indication, The Grove will likely be ripped off by imposters in short order.
