Sparrow Bar + Cook Shop Has Shuttered, Pi Pizza’s New Brick & Mortar + More A.M. Intel

– Over the weekend, CultureMap reported that Sparrow Bar + Cook Shop, the Midtown restaurant from James Beard nominee Monica Pope, has closed its doors. A cryptic sign posted in the window of the eatery reading "Sparrow is closed temporarily 4ever maybe" seemed to confirm the closure, but it has since been removed. Also gone is Sparrow’s social media presence and website.

Pi Pizza will be making the move from their food truck to a brand new brick & mortar space in the Heights in the coming weeks. Announced via release, the pizza spot’s first-ever stationary space will open 181 Heights Boulevard this summer.

– After the tragic loss of Legacy Restaurants’ Director of Operations Veronica Marquez-Garcia, the ownership of Ninfa’s On Navigation and Antone’s Famous Po’ Boys have set up a college fund for Marquez-Garcia’s three children. Donations can be made via GoFundMe, and will be matched by Legacy up to $30,000.

– Pita Pit, a fast-casual sandwich chain that originally started in Canada, is headed to Houston. The Chronicle reports that the chain will open its third Houston-area location in Deer Park this May, with the ultimate goal of opening 14 outposts in the coming months.
