With ridiculously hot summers like Houston’s, there’s no such thing as too many ways to cool down. Popsicles are decidedly among the best ways to do that (since public nudity is largely frowned upon), which makes the impending arrival of frozen treat purveyors Steel City Pops all the more exciting.

Eater reported the arrival of Steel City Pops back in February, at which time representatives from the Alabama-based chain expected the first Houston location to open in May. Now, it appears as if that opening has been postponed.

A post to Steel City Pops’ Facebook page this week announces that construction is just now officially underway at the space at 420 E. 20th Street. Scope out photos of early progress on Steel City Pops below:

The post also indicates that the opening will happen in mid-June instead of this month as expected. Considering that it’s only going to get hotter in the coming weeks, sooner is better than later when it comes to the availability of more delicious frozen delights in the Heights.
