Cat cafes, where animal lovers can hang out with adoptable felines while enjoying a cup of joe, have been quite the global phenomenon. One that has taken what seems like forever to make its way to Houston If you’ve been holding out hope for a cat cafe in your neighborhood, your prayers have finally been answered.
Try to remain calm, but Houstonia reports that El Gato Coffeehouse Cat Cafe is officially a go. The cafe hasn’t found a location just yet, but owner Renee Reed is seeking a cat-friendly landlord for the space. As for the cats, Reed will work with the Houston Humane Society to find critters that would be perfect for the cafe.
As for the drinks, Reed’s boyfriend Josh Cormier will use his background in the restaurant industry to develop a menu of beverages. El Gato Coffeehouse Cat Cafe will also work with local bakers to stock the cafe with sweets and other snacks. At present, Reed is still determining whether or not beer and wine will be available on premise.
She’ll also launch a Kickstarter in the next few weeks to raise funds for her venture, so keep your eyes peeled on how you can help. No official timeline has been set for opening, but you can likely expect for El Gato to land sometime in early 2017.
In the meantime, try to remain patient until your dreams of snuggling cats while sipping coffee finally comes true.
