Pour one out for The Corkscrew. After a dispute with the bar’s landlord, the popular wine spot has been forced to close its doors effective today.
The Corkscrew Wine Bar announced its closure via Facebook post, citing an “immediate issue regarding the location/extension” of their current lease. “The Corkscrew wishes to extend our appreciation for all the support over the years and have grown very, very close to so many of our customers/friends,” read the post.
Despite this setback, The Corkscrew does plan to make a comeback in a new location. They also hope to stick around the Heights, where drinkers have flocked since its opening. In 2013, the Houston Press named The Corkscrew Houston’s best wine bar.
The Corkscrew’s owners will lick their wounds (read: drink heavily) before scoping out new locations in the Heights. No word yet on what will replace the bar – stay tuned for more details on what will become of this once happening space.
RIP, The Corkscrew.
