In a swanky area like River Oaks, it's easy to feel safe as you enjoy an early evening meal. Yesterday afternoon, though, a tense scene played out at the Cafe Express on West Gray when two armed men entered the restaurant and began demanding cash.
According to KPRC's Jonathan Martinez, who was live on Facebook at the restaurant last night, the robbers entered the Cafe Express at around 6:15 on Monday afternoon. Customers told Martinez that while one of the perpetrators robbed a cashier at the counter, the other demanded purses, jewelry, and watches from diners in the restaurant.
Making matters worse, two gunshots were fired inside Cafe Express as the criminals continued to round up their loot. Witness accounts say that the men absconded from the scene in a gold Buick before police arrived at the scene.
At the time of this writing, the suspects – reportedly two Hispanic males between the ages of 35 and 40 – have not yet been arrested by police.
