For the past two weeks, visitors to popular Montrose Tex-Mex spot La Tapatia have been greeted by an unusually empty parking lot. According to a sign on the door, a small fire damaged the restaurant. But is it closed for good?

What we do know is that there was a fire. But the chain is being tight-lipped about how exactly the blaze started, or when it occurred. On July 21, HFDIncidents, a Twitter account that posts live updates of fire incidents in Houston, reported a building fire at Woodhead and Richmond – where La Tapatia is located – but it’s unclear whether or not that fire was responsible for the restaurant's closure.

On Yelp, the restaurant has been marked as permanently closed. La Tapatia did not respond to Eater’s requests for comment, but an employee at the Galleria location of La Tapatia tells us that the Montrose location is expected to reopen in "about two weeks."

Eater has reached out to La Tapatia and the Houston Fire Department for more details on the fire, and when the restaurant plans to reopen its doors. Stay tuned for more details.
