The 9 month pop-up will live at the former Murphy’s Deli

Naan tacos will definitely be on the menu.

In the past year, Peli Peli has been ridiculously busy building a growing restaurant empire. In addition to building an outpost of the restaurant in Austin and opening up fast-casual eatery Peli Peli Kitchen last year, the South African-inspired spot is bringing yet another concept to Houston.

Peli Peli owner Thomas Nguyen tells Eater that Peli Deli will take over the old Murphy’s Deli space at the Esperson’s Rusk lobby. The space for the restaurant will be revamped, including spray paint art from Jon Garner, and then will stay there for nine months, after which they’ll decide whether or not to stick around, move the concept elsewhere, or abandon the idea altogether.

When it opens, Peli Deli will serve lunch items like naan tacos and banh mi (also found at Peli Peli Kitchen) and South African-inspired breakfast breakfast dishes along with coffee, wine, and beer. The concept’s 9-month run is set to begin in March.
