Heads up, obsessive Rick & Morty fans: the show’s legendary Szechuan sauce is about to land in Houston.
After making its debut in the show’s third season, McDonald’s has officially resurrected the long-forgotten condiment for one day only. It was originally released in 1998 to promote the Disney film Mulan, but was only available on the menu for the duration of that particular promotion. After Rick reveals his love of the sweet-savory dipping sauce on the show, fans flooded Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites to asking McDonald’s to bring it back.
According to Eater’s Greg Morabito, the sauce is so popular that a single packet of the original sauce (found in someone’s “old car”) sold for more than $14,000 on eBay. The newly-released packets won’t have that steep price tag, but fans of the show should plan to stand in (probably lengthy) lines at the few Houston McDonald’s locations that are participating in the promotion to score a coveted Szechuan sauce or poster.
Fans willing to brave the lines can score one Szechuan sauce packet with the purchase of McDonald’s new chicken tenders on Saturday, October 7. Scope out the full list of participating locations (read: these outposts will actually have Szechuan sauce, not just commemorative posters) in Houston below.
