Southern Goods chef/owner Lyle Bento is promising to rebuild his neighborhood restaurant in the Heights after a fire ripped through the kitchen last weekend. The fire reportedly caused $30,000 worth of damage, according to Patch, when it happened overnight.
This happened just as everything at Southern Goods was getting back to normal after Harvey, Bento told the Houston Chronicle, noting that the weekend before was the most profitable since the hurricane.
Now Southern Goods is starting a fundraiser via GoFundMe, hoping to raise $30,000 to rebuild the restaurant and raise funds for its out-of-work staff and their family.
Besides the online GoFundMe page, Southern Goods will host a fundraising benefit at Onion Creek Cafe at 3106 White Oak next Friday from 5 p.m. to 11 pm. The party will feature live music, beer and a pop-up tent with food from Bento and Southern Goods chef J.D. Woodward.
