More outposts could be in the works, though

Fans of California’s favorite fast-food burger joint will be disappointed to learn that In-N-Out burger has pressed pause on its plans to expand into Houston.

In-N-Out will not be able to open in Houston for “several years,” reports Click2Houston, due to an existing lease in place on the space. This news comes after more than a year of the chain teasing Houstonians with its arrival. Back in February, In-N-Out was in town scoping out locations, and in July, purchased a parcel of property at 8373 Westheimer Road.

In-N-Out has never announced a timeline for its arrival in Houston, but a spokesperson told Click2Houston that the chain is still scoping out additional locations in Space City. Theoretically, one of those locations could open before the lease is up on the Westheimer property, but it doesn’t seem as if In-N-Out is in any hurry to expand into Houston. Meanwhile, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio all have locations of In-N-Out.

Fortunately, there are still plenty of excellent (and local) burger joints to choose from in Houston. And, of course, there’s always Whataburger.
