Everyone has a different approach to New Year’s Eve. Some folks opt to stay indoors and throw a house party, while others decide to get out and enjoy ringing in the New Year with tons of friendly strangers. Either way, dining at a great restaurant is a decidedly excellent way to send off 2018.
Considering that New Year’s Eve can be a particularly expensive night to dine out, it’s important to know where to find solid menus. These options, ranging from upscale prix-fixe to a totally reasonable dinner party with booze included, are perfect for pretty much any New Year’s Eve game-plan.
Weights + Measures
Indulge in tallegio cream ravioli, duck confit, wood-grilled octopus, and maple mustard seared ahi tuna at Weights & Measures, which will serve a $75, four-course prix fixe on New Year’s Eve with a midnight toast included. The desserts on offer, including something deemed a “chocolate extravaganza,” sound particularly appealing. Reservations are required.
Lucienne
Feeling like an early dinner before a night full of raging? Seatings at this chic Downtown eatery start at 4:30 p.m. and include four courses for $55 per person. Opt for the early seating which leaves plenty of time for pre-partying before the ball drops. Enjoy dishes like beef consommé en croute, foie gras cappuccino, and duck a l’orange. Reservations required, additional seatings available at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on December 31 for $75 and $95, respectively.
Bosscat Kitchen & Libations
This popular bar will be a lively haunt on NYE, especially when paired with its prix-fixe dinner. Featuring dishes like braised short rib with potato puree and asparagus, lemon-herb-pesto chicken, and gulf snapper served with spicy cheese grits, this four-course dinner also includes drink pairings, all for $75 per person. A glass of Moet Champagne is served with dessert as well as a champagne toast at midnight. Reservations are recommended.
Eight Row Flint
For a decidedly more casual option, head to Eight Row Flint for its “Classy Cheap Thrills” special. Get a large bottle of Miller High Life with four shots of Four Roses Yellow Bourbon for $30. Need more booze to wash down the booze? There’s a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.
Fig & Olive
This Galleria eatery will host a White & Gold Party with DJs and a four-course prix fixe menu for $100 which features French Riviera-inspired eats like crab bisque, filet mignon, and sautéed foie gras with porcini. Seatings will begin at 5 pm and go through midnight.
Benjy’s and The Classic
These sibling eateries will both serve up a la carte menus on NYE. Some standout dishes at Benjy’s include parmesan-crusted lamb chops with creamy risotto, and fire-roasted whole snapper with bok choy and Thai basil chips. The Classic will offer pan-seared scallops and acorn squash puree alongside a 44 Farms prime rib with duck fat potatoes. The last seating is at 10 p.m. at both restaurants.
Liberty Kitchen
In addition to its regular menu, Liberty Kitchen will serve up some NYE specialties like blue crab, shrimp, and oyster chowder, and pan-roasted filet mignon, alongside bacon and kale, sweet corn hushpuppies, and the traditional Southern dish fabled to bring good luck in the new year: black-eyed-peas.
