Since 1973, Burns Original BBQ has been one of the area’s most beloved purveyors of East Texas-style smoked meats. The restaurant is such an institution that Anthony Bourdain made a stop when he was in town filming his CNN show Parts Unknown. Now, the minds behind this Houston institution are taking on yet another meaty local favorite: the burger.
A newly-minted Facebook page announces the arrival of Burns Burger Shack, a restaurant that has quietly opened its doors at 8307 DePriest. A rendering of the restaurant indicates that it will offer walk-up “old fashioned burgers,” fries, and shakes just steps away from Burns Original BBQ, which means that diners will be able to induce the heaviest of meat comas by trying to take on both eateries in one stop.
Scope out this photo of the newly-opened restaurant and its staff:
The restaurant quietly opened its doors over the weekend, complete with an endorsement from its biggest fan, Houston rapper Slim Thug. Thugga posted about Burns Burger Shack’s debut on Monday, but hasn’t officially weighed in on whether or not the burgers are as notable as Burns barbecue.
