Houston’s First Cat Cafe Debuts Next Month

In the meantime, you can hang out with the cats

Hanging out with cats and drinking coffee is a natural pairing, which is why the cat cafe has been so popular in the United States and beyond. Space City might be a little late to the trend, but the city will soon have its very first spot to chill with adoptable felines while consuming plenty of caffeine.

Via its website, El Gato Coffeehouse has announced that it will officially swing open the doors at some point in May. Before El Gato begins operating on a full schedule, though, the new spot is hosting a series of events to acquaint Houston with the adorable (and totally adoptable!) cats that will soon staff the space at 508 Pecore Street.

Over the next few weeks, cat lovers will be able to catch a few episodes of Garfield and bottomless coffee for an hour on Saturdays, or make their way through a few asanas during Yoga With Cats. For those that need the spot (read: the cats) all to yourself, the Cat Cottage will also soon be available for private events and parties.

Eater has reached out to El Gato Coffeehouse for an official opening date, but. In the meantime, check out the shop’s events calendar for a good time to get acquainted with your best new cat friends.

UPDATE: A representative for El Gato Coffeehouse tells Eater that the concept will operate two spaces, The Cat Cottage and a full-service coffeehouse housed in a separate structure that will open for full service in June.
