Because Houston’s suburbs needed yet another place to eat fajitas and guzzle margaritas, a new Tex-Mex chain will open its doors in Katy.
Announced via release, Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant will officially kick open the doors at 24600 Katy Freeway next month. The Lubbock-based chain has opened nearly 40 restaurants in Texas, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Tennessee, and more since it was founded in the dusty town of Amarillo, TX, in 1989.
Abuelo’s serves up a pretty standard menu of Tex-Mex fare in a slightly more upscale environment than your usual enchilada spot. In addition to the restaurant’s house specialties, like enchiladas de Cozumel and avocado enchiladas, Abuelo’s will add a few Katy-specific dishes, including a seared tuna and shrimp ceviche and a new margarita called the El Jefe.
Abuelo’s was originally expected to arrive in Katy earlier this year, but the restaurant now plans to open its doors on April 10th.
