We previously reported — way back when, on May 9th — that “popular wine nerd” Evan Turner had left his post as sommelier of Helen Greek Food & Wine. He wasn’t just slinging wine for the Grecian spot — he was also one of its founders (he also attempted to crowdsource funds to bring the concept to life, though the Kickstarter campaign was unsuccessful, raising less than half of its $35K goal.) Turner was also one-half of the force behind the Greek spot’s sister restaurant, Helen in the Heights.
Turns out, Turner hasn’t gone for long — we just got word that he’s back in as head sommelier at both Helen Greek Food & Wine and Helen in the Heights.
Turner’s departure itself was sudden and abrupt, according to a release from the restaurant — but after a little over a week away, they say Turner has realized his leaving was a mistake, and has been welcomed back into the Helen fold “with open arms.”
Said Turner, in a release: “After expressing my sincere remorse to the Helen leadership following an ill-advised impulse to step down from a position I hold dear, I am delighted and relieved to announce my return to the Helen family.”
