- The Houston Business Journal reports that Benjamin Berg — the brains behind B&B Butchers & Restaurant, on Washington Ave. — is opening another Houston restaurant, this time at a luxe apartment building downtown. Located at 1111 Rusk — the former Texaco building — the spot is planned to open in summer 2018. Houston Chronicle reports that the spot will be called Benjamin’s but will not be a steakhouse.
- There are two ice cream spots opening in two different malls. I CE NY — which specializes in Thai-style rolled ice cream, is opening up at The Woodlands Mall; a tipster sent word of a Craigslist ad seeking employees for the forthcoming shop. The same tipster told us that over at Baybrook Mall is another sweet treat spot opening soon — Popbar Houston. Popbar will specialize in — you guessed it — popsicles.
- We now have a rendering of America Gardens Midtown — the forthcoming beer hall that will be a part of the also forthcoming entertainment district at the 2400 block of Caroline. Syn Hospitality Group, the folks behind the project, say that the airy indoor-outdoor space will be the biggest patio in Midtown Houston.
