For fans of Shade in the Heights, it’s time to say farewell. The much-beloved restaurant will soon be transformed into a brand new restaurant called Alice Blue.
Announced via release, Shade will officially close its doors later this month to be revamped into Alice Blue, a “modern bistro” helmed by executive chef Kent Domas, formerly of Down House and Bernadine’s. “We are proud of what we have accomplished with Shade and it will always be a part of the history of 19th street and dining in The Heights,” said Shade owner Claire Smith in a statement. “The area has evolved and 19th street continues to grow and change. The time is right for our dining experience to evolve with it.”
The soon-to-be-revamped spot will also serve up a formidable bar program, crafted by former Hay Merchant and Public Services Wine & Whiskey manager Sean Jensen. Alice June will serve up an “approachable but savvy” wine list built around the menu that Domas is crafting in the kitchen.
Shade will host its last service on Mother’s Day, then close for renovations on the space. The building at 250 W. 19th Street is expected to debut as Alice Blue in June 2017.
