Sweetgreen’s Wildly Trendy Salads Are Headed to Houston

Vegetable enthusiasts, rejoice

Directly on the heels of The Gorgeous Gael shuttering its Rice Village outpost this weekend due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the developer of the property has announced yet another new eatery slated for the revamped shopping center.

A DC spot for healthy bowls and salads Sweetgreen will be joining the development, according to the Houston Business Journal. The chain operates locations on both the East and West Coasts and will bring to Texas a menu of salads, warm bowls, and seasonal dishes packed with veggies and fruits. Standout items include the curry chickpea bowl with roasted chicken, toasted almonds, quinoa, organic baby spinach, topped with a curry yogurt dressing, and a crab and watermelon dish with raw corn, shredded cabbage, and chopped romaine, which can be found on the seasonal DC menu. Fingers crossed it makes the move to Houston.

Dallas-based Trademark Property Co. has been in the midst of multimillion dollar Rice Village overhaul over the last several years. Part of the plan was to revamp the complex’s image as a dining destination with imported restaurants like insanely popular Alabama popsicle chain Steel City Pops, Los Angeles’ SusieCakes bakery, plus forthcoming Sixty Vines wine bar from Dallas and a Southern California export for sandwiches and salads called Mendocino Farms. The renovation also included beautifying the space and making it more usable for visitors including creating additional patio seating and parking, improving sidewalks and crosswalks, and adding outdoor art.

Stay tuned for more information on Sweetgreen’s arrival.
